HORTUS is a multifunctional office building located in the BaseLink area of Allschwil near Basel (Switzerland), developed by SENN, HERZOG & DE MEURON, and ZPF Ingenieure in close collaboration with the earth building pioneers LEHM TON ERDE and wood construction specialists BLUMER LEHMANN. It sets a new standard for sustainability by repaying its construction energy within a generation and being energy-positive after about 30 years. The choice of materials reflects a circular low-tech strategy: the beech, spruce, and oak wood used is sourced 100% from Swiss forests, the clay used for the ceiling elements (processed as rammed earth) primarily comes from the excavation of the HORTUS foundation, and recycled materials such as waste paper or brick chippings are used for insulation. Energy yield is maximized through the extensive use of solar panels on the roof and facade.
HORTUS combines technology and nature, promotes science and utopia, and is committed to the circular economy by designing each component with a future vision and guidance for reuse.
POSITIF is part of the construction team on-site, working in the areas of wood and earth construction, and is involved in the creation of the ceiling elements, facade, and interior finishing on behalf of BLUMER LEHMANN and LEHM TON ERDE.

Das HORTUS ist ein multifunktionales Bürogebäude auf dem BaseLink Areal in Allschwil bei Basel (Schweiz), entwickelt von SENN, HERZOG & DE MEURON und ZPF Ingenieure in enger Kooperation mit den Lehmbaupionieren LEHM TON ERDE und Holzbauspezialisten BLUMER LEHMANN. Es setzt einen neuen Standard für Nachhaltigkeit, indem es seine Bauenergie innerhalb einer Generation zurückzahlt und nach rund 30 Jahren energiepositiv ist. Bei der Auswahl der Materialien wurde ganz im Sinne einer kreislauffähigen low-tech Strategie gedacht: So kommt das verwendete Buchen-, Fichten- und Eichenholz zu 100% aus Schweizer Wäldern, der für die Deckenelemente verwendete Lehm (Als Stampflehm verarbeitet) besteht zum Grossteil aus dem Fundamentaushub des Hortus und für die Dämmung werden rezyklierte Materialien wie Altpapier oder Ziegelschrot verwendet. Die Energieausbeute wird durch den grossflächigen EInsatz von Solarpanels auf dem Dach und der Fassade maximiert.
Das HORTUS verbindet Tech und Natur, fördert Wissenschaft und Utopie und verpflichtet sich der Kreislaufwirtschaft, indem es jedes Bauteil mit einer Zukunftsvision und Anleitung zur Weiterverwendung gestaltet.
POSITIF ist als Teil des Baustellenteams im Bereich Holz- und Lehmbau vor Ort und an der Erstellung der Deckenelemente, Fassade und des Innenausbaus im Auftrag von BLUMER LEHMANN und LEHM TON ERDE handwerklich beteiligt.
