AFFORDABLE STUDENT HOUSING AT HABITAT ESTUDANTIL

HABITAT ESTUDANTIL is a concept for a student housing complex in the informal neighborhood Polana Caniço in the city of Maputo, Mozambique.

Located near the biggest university campus in the country, the building can provide housing for about 30 students.

Due to a fast-growing population and an extremely dense building typology that only plans with a ground floor, more and more space gets lost in the many informal neighborhoods of Maputo.

The concept aims at utilizing ground space and existing buildings as much as possible while providing a convenient, economic and private living environment on 3 floors.

The concept was preceeded by a 1-month field research in Polana Caniço in spring 2016
